as I’m a grown woman last I checked. Of course, when I brought this to his attention, he tried to make me feel like I was mistaken as he would never say such a thing. On that note the relationship ended. As the old song says: “I’d rather be alone then be unhappy.” Relationships can be wonderful, but not at the expense of who you are as an individual, and free thinker.  Allowing the right person to come along is well worth the wait.

National Scholarship Month: Don’t Fear the Free Money.

National Scholarship Montive to look for the money. It will not fall in their lap.

The fear of free money comes from the fear of actually doing research.  Our “Google” mindset has us sometimes believing that things should come easy. They will not. Free money never will, but it does not mean it is not accessible.  These programs really do make a difference in the lives of those who receive them. Lead Counselor Nash concurred explaining her experience with students and scholarships: “I have seen students receive a full ride to college for four years, still apply for outside scholarships and have enough to buy a car and laptop!  Scholarships can make a difference in whether a student goes to a four year school or a community college.”  During this National Scholarship week, make an effort to research and find scholarships and grants.  It is out there if you want it.

Should I Fear the Sister in Power.

Yes, there is ugly and evil in every group. There are some sisters that are rotten, but that’s not everyone. Overall, we must continue to look out for one another as we are not the majority group. It is important that we acknowledge, and see, one another. The agenda of black women and family must sit in priority over the kinds of feminism that divides us, and people that pit is against each other. During my last hospital visit I saw a black woman walk in my room that was the nurse assigned to me. I was realized to see the sister only to receive horrible attitude and disregard. When asked about it…she just rolled her eyes and walked off. Needless to say this actually hurt my communal feelings. As we demand better from others we must give better to each other.

The point is to not feel so obligated that you create a mess in your life that no one else has to deal with but you. If you choose to relax at home make sure you can do so without feeling guilty, or that defeats the purpose. I can tell you I’ll be relaxing playing video games and drinking my favorite red wine this coming holiday, and I’ll be catching up with my adopted family and friends for Christmas. November has been a stressful month, and I could use a couple of days to just unwind and renew my energy. If you are in the same boat take care of you.

I applaud your ability to want to be everything to everyone. It is a great and beautiful trait that many people wish they could have. However,  you are a valuable part of this earthly realm. It is important to know your worth so you can continue to be a part of the fabric that makes this human race a beautiful group of people.

Anxiety and Impatience.

Anxiety can cause serious impatience that is unfair…and impatience you wouldn’t tolerate. Knowing this is important because it can help you make sure you aren’t mistreating the person you care about. There is nothing worse than feeling like the person you care about fights with you regularly and you don’t know how to convey to them that you are all in. If the person you are with is violating boundaries and treating you with disregard don’t let them use your anxiety against you as if your position is invalid because of your diagnosis. At the same time don’t allow your anxiety to dictate a level of control that is unfair and can become abusive. It is important to strive for fairness in all spaces.

Our Sons Deserve the Same Protection.

Allowing them to know you will fight for them just the same can be a start to raising boys and girls that respect each other equally and will stand for respectful behavior towards each other. This tells our sons we don’t expect you to take abuse just because it’s another boy so suck it up, or because it’s a girl and she doesn’t have to observe your boundaries. Fairness in how we handle our children may be a very important part of bettering relationships between men and women.
