(ThySistas.comIt can often seem as though when you’re trying to get fit and stay in shape, that there are only two options: you either go to the gym, or you head out into the world and work out there. Now, if you’re living in a city and you don’t have that much of budget to work with, this can present a couple of issues. After all, you may not be able to afford a gym membership, and you aren’t necessarily going to have the kind of environment around you where you’ve got plenty of space to stay active, both out in the city and your home. However, that doesn’t mean that you should just give up on staying in shape. Here are a few ways that you can stay active and healthy while living in the big city.

Ride your bike to work

If you’re living in a city, then you probably know just how much of a nightmare it can be trying to get anywhere my car. You end up stuck in bumper to bumper traffic, running late and feeling stressed. However, cycling to work can kill two birds with one stone because it not only helps you avoid the traffic, but it gives you your workout for the day too. Of course, many people who live in cities don’t exactly have the space to store a full-size bike. But that’s okay because there are plenty of great foldable bikes out there which can be stored incredibly easily, no matter how much space you have. Of course, it’s important to take all the right safety precautions since cycling in a city does come with its own share of risks a lot of the time.

Home workouts

If you can’t get out to the gym and there’s nowhere in your city where you can go to stay active, then why not just do it at home? There are plenty of incredibly effective workouts that you can do as long as you have a few feet of space to move around in. Heck, you can just go on Youtube and find a whole bunch of easy workouts that you can do from the comfort of your own home with little more than a yoga mat. Of course, it’s a good idea to make sure to check that you’re not causing any disturbance to your downstairs neighbours.

Sports at a local park

Pretty much any City has at least a few local parks, and many of them have access to places where you can play sports. Things like basketball and tennis courts are particularly common since they don’t need large expanses of grass in order to function. All you need to do is to buy the equipment that they don’t provide like balls and rackets. If you and a few friends can get together to play once a week, not only will you be able to stay active, but it gives you all something fun to do that isn’t necessarily going to cost you a great deal of money.

The reality is that there are always things that you can do in order to stay healthy, fit, and active. It’s just that sometimes you’ve got to get a little bit creative with how you do it depending on the environment in which you find yourself.
