(ThySistas.com) Winter is coming up and that means there’s going to be a change in weather. I don’t know about you, but I love the changes that come with the seasons. In fact, fall and winter are my favorite times of the year. It’s much easier to warm up than cool off and when you live in parts of the country that experience all four seasons, you look forward to the cooler months of the year. Well, at least I do.

We know about getting our wardrobe ready for the cold weather, but what about our hair? I have natural hair and I love protective styles that allow me to do little to nothing to my tresses. It’s customary for black women to get these styles during the summer for obvious reasons, but the winter time is just as good a time as any to have a protective style too. So let’s talk about one of my favorite go-to styles for winter- Braids.

Marley Twists

If you want something a different from the norm, then this is a good one to try. Marley twists are my go to because I love the feel that they give to my overall style. They are done with kinky/Marley hair and to me, are the easiest and quickest to put in and take out.

Goddess/ Faux Locs

I recently found out just how expensive this protective style can be. I love goddess/ faux locs because they are sexy and look very nice. I would love to have them done on my hair one day. If you don’t mind spending a little bit more on your braids and sitting longer in the stylist’s chair, then I highly suggest you try them out. They are very popular right now too.

Box Braids

You can never go wrong with a good set of box braids. I have had these before as well and they are definitely a cultural favorite. I like them because they have the potential to last a long time (I usually keep mine in for about 10 weeks). They are versatile and come in all sizes and lengths. They are also fairly affordable, with the hair used for the braids costing $3 or less per pack.

Ghana Braids

These braids are all the rage right now. Ghana braids are a pretty style of cornrows that consist of small to large braids in one style. I have seen these in all sizes and colors. They are a great alternative to the usual cornrows that has been the norm over the years. They are super dope and a great example of African culture influencing pop culture in general. I am all for it.

Protective styling is a great way to save your hair from the hustle and bustle of doing it all the time. Every now and then, your tresses need a break and there is probably no better way to do that than to take advantage of braids. These are just a few of the styles that women are rocking right now. You will be glad that you did.
