(ThySistas.com) For centuries teen pregnancy has been a curse for all races but most predominantly in the African American community. Teen pregnancy is considered the conception of anyone under the age of 20 years old, once a girl has began her menstrual cycle she is then able to carry a baby. Many years ago teen pregnancies were shun, but it seems that today society is more accepting of these young mothers. In 2014 a total of 249,078 were born to women between the ages of 15 through 19.

The United States’ teen pregnancy rate is substantially higher than any other country. I think that in order to prevent future teen pregnancy that parents especially the mothers should be more involved in the lives of their teen daughters. Most parents do not 2016-teenpregnantdiscuss or have the “sex talk” with their children, and many teens roam often allowing their curiosity to get the best of them landing them in a permanent situation. We as women have to display positive behavior so that it may reflect back on our children. For example if a woman got pregnant at the age of 16 with her daughter who is now a teenager, it will be more of a challenge to break the cycle.

Children tend to follow in their parents footsteps, seeing them as a role model. Nonetheless we also have to understand that there are situations where teens end up pregnant by non-consensual sex, 1 in every 6 women has experienced a sexual violation of some form. How can we only blame the teens themselves? Look at the so called role models set forth such as the Kardashian Clan, Beyonce, Lil Kim, Karlie Red, and Joseline Hernandez to name a few. They were not all teen mothers but just look at what they put in the minds of our youth. They are paid to sell sex as well as their souls and whether we see it or not it is putting negative thoughts into the minds of our youth.

The world needs other answers for teenage pregnancy besides abortion, which is far from the answer. Why continue to take lives instead of trying to put a stop to the madness. I do agree that babies are a blessing, I’ve heard this statement so many times and each time it was from someone not even stable enough to take care of themselves furthermore a new life.

How many more abortions will have to conducted before we put an end to this never ending curse? A lot of people call it “being young and dumb” but it is way more than that. Many parents raise their children with the right moral values and the children still go astray. What can we do to stop this horrific cycle?

I think this article is sexist. The responsibility to prevent teen pregnancy falls on the shoulders of mothers and fathers including the society as a whole. Both genders need to be educated. The U.S. needs to stop selling irresponsible sex to the youth through the media: magazines, sitcoms, movies, soap operas, etc. To finish, schools should offer sex courses to the youth and the teachers should be qualified health professionals such as nurses to help the youth prevent diseases, not just teen pregnancy!
