(ThySistas.com) Many of us were raised up being told “Sticks and stoned may break your bones, but words will never hurt you.”  Many of us have been torn down, have rendered ourselves less than based on the words that have been spoken to us, and words we have spoken of ourselves.  Black women face an enormous amount of verbal negativity from many different sources over the course of our lives.

However, we can escape the clutches and destruction of verbal negativity, in part, by coming to grips with the truth of the power of words.  Yes, words can kill us inside, or save us.  We have the power to accept or disregard words, and above all to speak powerful positive life into our universe.

“Words are singularly the most powerful force available to humanity. We can choose to use this force constructively with words of encouragement, or destructively using words of despair. Words have energy and power with the ability to help, to heal, to hinder, to hurt, to harm, to humiliate and to humble.” – Yehuda Berg

We cannot control the words that come out of another, however we do have power over what we will speak of ourselves and others.  Often times those of us that are hurt verbally unintentionally afflict 2016-wordsthe same hurt on others because it’s how we were taught to communicate.  However, as we grow and learn there is a better way we must choose to embrace such. We often speak in line with what we think, so we must begin to see ourselves differently.  Yes, I am aware this can be difficult due to our environment, or the degree of verbal abuse we have suffered.

The silver lining is we can begin to save our life, and maybe the life of another one day, by allowing positive words and thoughts to consume us.  Just about every believe system be it spiritual or just a life path incorporates positive affirmation in the journey.  The idea is we believe what we consistently hear; if we are consistently telling ourselves “I am beautiful, I am smart, I am important” one day we will believe it.  No, positive speaking won’t change the physical reality of our life immediately, but it can give birth to the beginning of a new reality.  When picking up our lives, or simply choosing to elevate, the power of change begins with our words. Challenge yourself to say something positive and uplifting everyday. You will begin to see a change in how you feel and think once you embrace the saving energy of positive words.

“Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits.” – Proverbs 18:21

“There is one whose rash words are like sword thrusts, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.” – Proverbs 12:18

‘A kind word with forgiveness is better than almsgiving followed by injury. Allah is Absolute, Clement.’ (Quran 2:263)

“Whatever words we utter should be chosen with care for people will hear them and be influenced by them for good or ill.” – Buddah

“The thought manifests as the word. The word manifests as the deed. The deed develops into habit. And the habit hardens into character. So watch the thought and its ways with care. And let it spring from love, born out of concern for all beings.” – Buddah

Check out this video. Truth hurts alot.
Even though the speaker denies the negative impact and injury of slavery, he has the information on the black woman (not all black women of course)right on point – like it or not.
