(ThySistas.com) Everybody dreams of having a peaceful neighborhood. Having nice neighbors makes us feel safe and at peace. However, there will be times when we meet nosy neighbors. There are the ones who are always invasive, and sometimes disrespectful of your boundaries. While you cannot let them leave the neighborhood easily especially if they own the house where they reside, there are things you can do to handle them without making any trouble:
- Install security cameras.
If you suspect your neighbors to be nosy, you need to make sure that they are. Installing security cameras is a good way to make sure that they are invading your privacy. If they found out that you’ve installed them outside your house, they might soon be hesitant in doing sneaky moves as no one wants to be caught on film. Videos recorded from it can also be used when worse comes to worst. Aside from that, security cameras help deter neighborhood thieves.
- Walk away.
It’s nice to have small talks with neighbors especially when you just recently moved in. However, it is also necessary to set boundaries. Remember that you only get to know them now so consider them as strangers. If they happen to ask too many questions, politely decline and find an excuse to walk away. Making them feel that you are not interested may or may not give a positive view of them but at least you keep them from knowing confidential details about you.
- Close the door and windows.
If you don’t like confronting them, blocking their view is your best option. Make sure to always close your doors to keep them from peeping inside your house. You may also choose blackout or blind curtains for your windows. If you love gardening, consider planting bushes in your backyard to block the view from outside, too.
- Be extra kind.
When you feel like you’re privacy is being invaded by your neighbors, or you hear that some of them gossip about you, try to be kind when you walk past them. It’s okay if you don’t want to create conversations with them but being rude to them might make things worse. Consider being casual or keep yourself away from them as much as possible.
- Call the authorities.
If worse comes to worst, the best thing you can do is to call the cops. Fixing this with your own hands might get you in a lot of trouble. Spare your life and let the authorities handle it. If this has been happening for so long, create a record of evidence to show to them.
Nothing beats a peaceful community. You may be where you reside today for a reason, but if possible, try to look for a new place especially if your neighbors are affecting you emotionally and mentally. It may not be easy at first but it is always necessary to protect your peace. A little nosy neighbor is not worth it.
