Unfortunately, many of these “healthy” habits turn out to do more harm than good. Even when faced with negative consequences, however, it can be hard to let go of practices we’ve been convinced are good for us. Below, we have listed five common habits that aren’t as healthy as you think and tips on how to move past them. 

1. Eating Late at Night

Eating your meals late at night can cause poor digestion, unhealthy weight gain, increased blood pressure, and many other unwanted effects. If you’re too hungry to sleep, try to snack on healthy treats like low cholesterol milk, carrots, bananas, and so forth – things that will benefit your body. 

2. Under or Over-exercising

Physical activity offers many health benefits for the body. For starters, it helps you to stay fit, regulates your weight, boosts energy, and makes you feel great. 

Other crucial health benefits of exercise include keeping your heart healthy, lowering the risks of chronic diseases, and improving blood flow. This is why exercise should be part of your daily routine and should never be taken for granted. 

However, it’s also important to avoid excessive gym time because too much exercise can actually cause damage to your body. Over-exercisers are also at risk of muscle tears and burnout. Staying fit is important, but taking it too fat could damage your physical and mental health.

 

3. Cooking with Olive Oil

Olive oil is packed with healthy antioxidants that are great for the human body. However, using it to cook your food isn’t a great idea because it has a lower smoke point compared to other types of cooking oils.  

Olive oil’s smoke point lies somewhere between 365° and 420 F°, and when it reaches high temperatures, some of its beneficial properties give way to unhealthy compounds. Make sure to switch it up with more versatile fats like coconut oil and butter.

4. Drinking Wine with Dinner

For many individuals, going on a diet is the best way to lose weight and stay fit. However, it’s not always necessary. In fact, diets can lead to unhealthy eating habits that end up jeopardizing your overall health. 

According to experts, most diets fail because they are super limiting, which is not good for the body. Instead of going on an unnecessary diet, you can improve one eating habit at a time, choose healthy meals more often, and remember to exercise. 

5. Drinking Wine with Dinner

Studies have shown that wine offers several health benefits, but some individuals have gone too far with it. They tend to drink more than is necessary, and it isn’t good for them. Of course, it’s perfectly fine to buy vermouth from time to time, but too much alcohol can lead to unhealthy behaviors. In turn, this habit can affect your physical and mental health. 

Drinking just a glass of wine per day should be safe, so long as you’re also getting plenty of water. Staying hydrated is crucial as it helps clean toxins from your body and is great for your overall health.
