Hair and Health: The Great Connection.

(ThySistas.com) As women, we are more in tuned with our environment than men. It’s not a quip to the male gender women are just wired differently. With that, one of the ways we know what’s going on inside of us is through the health of our hair. Our bodies communicate with us in so many ways and all we have to do is listen. When we do, we are able to spot things here and there that can be a matter of life or death.

Our hair is a great revealer of the condition of our temples. Yes, the hair growing out of our heads holds telling clues to our health.

So, to help you get (and keep) your life, here are a few things to consider when judging the condition of your hair.

Limp/Dry Hair

If you have thick, lustrous hair, good for you. However, if you see a dramatic change in how your hair feels and even acts, it could be a sign of hypothyroidism. Suddenly limp or dry hair can reveal a thyroid out of whack and a trip to the doctor may be in order. Hypothyroidism can also cause countless changes within your body,blackwoman-sheddinghair-2016 including weight gain and fatigue, which are symptoms that greatly impact your quality of life.

Another thing that dry or lackluster hair reveals about your health is a lack of water intake. Accompanied by hot flashes, night sweats and even a lack of energy, dull hair is a warning that you may be dehydrated. So, the next time you are hungry or feel starved, try a couple glasses of water before you go for solid food.

Shedding

We all experience shedding, but some of us do so more than others. While we usually brush it off as normal, it may be a sign of anemia, especially if it starts suddenly or if you get a comb full of hair. Low iron is the culprit here and can lead to tiredness and heavier periods. As with any health concern, go to the doctor to know for sure.

Thinning

Everyone desires a head full of hair, but if yours has been thinning more lately, it may be due to protein deficiency. While men definitely feel the sting of going bald more heavily, women can experience it as well to a certain degree. Up your lean protein intake if your hair is thinning and plan a trip to your doctor who can help you get to the bottom of your diminishing tresses.

Dandruff

No one wants a dry scalp. When you have dandruff, it may be a sign of psoriasis. Psoriasis is an autoimmune disease that can lead to dandruff that turns into scaly patches. This is something that your doctor or a dermatologist can help you get under control.

The connection our hair has to the rest of our body goes deeper than many of us realize. Keep watch and pay attention because the state of your hair is closely related to what’s going on inside of you.
