(ThySistas.com) Do you ever feel like your connection with God, is not where it used to be? Or, has your busy day and successful life, made you have less time for God? Here’s some helpful ways to help you reconnect with God.
Pray/meditate early in the morning. Before you get started on your day with your to-do lists, spend at least 15 minutes, first thing in the morning praying and meditating. Be still, so that you can you hear His small still voice in the morning.
Write out your prayers in a journal. Don’t feel comfortable praying to God aloud? He can read so go ahead and write Him a message or prayer in your journal. Taking the time and writing down your prayers will open up a closer relationship with you and God because it is an activity that you can do, as you desire to do so and as the spirit moves you.
Purchase devotional books, apps or audiobooks. Devotional books or bible plan apps are very helpful and only takes you about 1-3 minutes to read or listen to. Devotionals are a great resource to read verses out of the bible, and get a quick message on how to apply those verses to your everyday life. In order to connect with God, you have to read and apply His word to your life.
Read a bible version that you understand. There are so many bible versions out there that can help you better understand the bible. Most people don’t understand the King James Version (KJV) and tend to read the New King James Version (NKJV) instead, or the New International Version (NIV) or plan and simple, The Message version. Now if you really need the word of God spelled out for you, purchase the Amplified version.
Make your prayer time, with no distractions. Turn off the phone, turn off the television and choose a time where you are alert and awake to pray. We’ve all prayed five minutes before our bedtimes and was very unsuccessful because we fell asleep while praying. Take away all of your distractions (kids and spouses included) and just spend some uninterrupted time with God. Think about how you would feel if you really wanted to talk to someone but they weren’t fully giving you attention because of all of their distractions around them? God feels the same way!
Say prayers of gratitude and thanksgiving. When was the last time you just thanked God for what He’s already done in your life? Have you told God about how grateful you are that He continues to bless and keep you in spite of your shortcomings? To connect more with God, tell Him “thank you” more often than always casting your burdens on and not being grateful for what He’s already given you in this lifetime. We can get so caught up on always begging and pleading with God to do something for us, that we don’t take the time to just say “thank you.”
End your day, spending time with God. Just as you began your day with God, end it with Him as well. Give Him your time and heart at the end of each and every day. Don’t go to bed anxious about anything, instead give that problem over to God and rest in assurance knowing that He’s already worked it out for your good, before the sun will rise, the following morning.
Connecting with God is such a simple thing to do, but yet it seems so hard at the same time. Implementing these seven ways to connect with God, better is just the beginning of a beautiful relationship between you and the Creator.
