(ThySistas.comWhen it comes to our working lives, during school, we can often high hopes for what is to come. We try to understand what career we may have and what we might like to do with our lives. We work hard to gain all the necessary qualifications and degrees to make it a reality, and then obtaining the job can feel like a dream come true. It is exciting and all an unknown to us. But, not all can be as it seems.

When you work for someone, you are generally placing the responsibility of your day in somebody else’s hands. You head to work, do your job and you expect certain things in return, right? However, there can be times and situations that you are faced with when all is not as it seems to be. It is time to open your eyes and become more aware of what could go wrong for you in the workplace. Here are some of the common things anyone of us could face.

Missing out on income and wages

Sometimes during working time, you have no choice but to take on extra hours or overtime. It could be voluntary, or it may be something that you have no choice but to take. You do this in good faith, and of course, you expect to be compensated for the extra time. Sometimes it is just your hourly rate, other times it might be that you get the chance to earn extra because of when you work and the hours that you do. But the question to ask yourself, is do you actually get paid what you are due? It might be a few minutes here, an hour missed off there, but over a period of time this can add up. If you suspect something like this has happened then the best advice would be to seek some legal guidance from attorneys such as Turley Law Firm. You never know, you could be owed a small fortune, and it is rightfully yours to claim back.

Not being seen for your efforts and ideas

It can be so disheartening at times when working. You work hard. Perhaps suggest new and innovative ideas, only to be sidelined at the last minute. Not getting recognised for your efforts can do more damage than good when it comes to your career. The last thing you want is to feel misjudged, and so you may want to take the time to really look at what the underlying issue here could be. If you are regularly missed off the list of praise or positivity in the workforce, then they are the problems you need to address with your line managers or coworkers? Taking a closer look at the situation may highlight what you might want to change.

Finding it challenging to work with colleagues

It isn’t easy to get on with everyone, we all know that. But when it comes to working, you spend a considerable chunk of your time in the one place or with the same people. So it is essential to try and establish some common ground to ensure that you can do all that you can to get along with everyone. You don’t have to like them all, and sometimes your job means that you are not there to make friends. But making it a pleasant place to work can help you to feel more at ease.

Your employer not having decent health and safety guidelines

You go to work expecting to feel safe and secure doing the job you are employed to do. After all, an employer has a level of responsibility to ensure that is the case. But, this doesn’t always happen. Does your employer have a decent health and safety policy in place? Ensuring that you feel safe and happy in your working environment means that you are able to do your job without worry.

Working conditions not being up to standard

Finally, the working conditions in your workplace could be causing you more harm than good. It could be the temperature in your office. It could be not having an area to cook things for lunches or to store food to eat. Working conditions might be too many deadlines or your employer not thinking about your wellbeing. There could be many things you could be struggling with at work, and by not accepting them means that you can start to improve your working environment and how you feel during the day.

I hope that these things help you to open your eyes in the workplace.
