(ThySistas.com) This world can be a tough place. Sometimes the weight of everything you go through can make you feel worthless. It can make you question a lot of things. While we all do stuff that causes pain and unnecessary hardships to ourselves, sometimes other people are the source of your hurt. As such, at times, that can be the hardest thing to forgive. Let’s talk about forgiveness.
Some folks go through life carryings scars so deep that they can’t even talk about them. I know how it feels to be betrayed and shut out by people that you gave everything to. Needless to say, I know how hard it can be to forgive. But one thing you have to realize about forgiveness is that it is not for the other person. Most people who hurt other people don’t think about what they’ve done and some don’t even know they are the source of a person’s pain. But an individual’s inability to accept responsibility for their actions or to know that their actions have caused harm doesn’t mean you can’t forgive them. In fact, it behooves you to start the process of letting things go once and for all. I don’t say that lightly because “letting go” isn’t easy, but it is necessary.
Here are some ways you can harness the power of forgiveness.
It Sets You Free
It may sound like a cliché but it is the truth. Deciding to forgive someone that hasn’t asked for forgiveness is hard, but when you do it, it is like a weight lifted off of you. Being able to live your life free of the sting of a situation will open you up to so much more.
It Lets You Trust Again
Most people who have been hurt have trust issues. This is totally understandable because once you put your guards up so that you can’t be hurt again, it is nearly impossible to let someone else into your life. But the freedom you feel from forgiving the person who hurt you, will let you love again, have friends again; Be you again.
It is Good For Your Mental Health
The stresses of life are always increased by feelings of unforgiveness. It is like you have a chip on your shoulder and that can make it difficult to function in your everyday life. One of the things that people deal with is issues of mental health like depression and anxiety when they walk around with hurt. Forgiveness can clear your heart, mind, and soul of the heaviness that sometimes makes it nearly impossible to function.
It Teaches You About You
Sometimes you can be so caught up in what was done to you that you can’t see what you do to other people. We all have people that we hurt and most of us don’t do it on purpose. But that doesn’t mean the sting of what we did or said doesn’t weigh on the person experiencing the hurt. When you forgive others, it teaches you that we all need forgiveness.
It takes time and is a constant thing, but forgiveness, even of the most hurtful things, is possible.
