(ThySistas.comOut of every 100 couples, around 11 percent will struggle with fertility problems, and that amount is rising each year. While some fertility issues merely make it harder to conceive, others sadly prevent conception altogether.

When it comes to issues with fertility, studies have shown that one-third of problems are due to female fertility problems, one-third due to male fertility problems, and one-third due to unknown causes. That means that around 33 percent of couples with fertility problems are unsure of what the cause is.

Struggling to conceive can be upsetting, especially if you’re unsure of what has caused the issue in the first place. So it’s important to be informed about the most common factors that can impact your ability to procreate so that you can prevent fertility problems from occurring, or at least, try to. Even if you’re not ready to have a child just yet, it pays to understand what factors have the ability to impact your ability to have a child.

STDs

A lot of people don’t realize it but contracting an STD and failing to have it treated can lead to fertility problems. The most common STDs for causing fertility problems are Chlamydia and Gonorrhea, these are also the most common STDs in young people. When it comes to the question of how common are STDs, a lot of people don’t realize that at one point or another one in two of us will contract one. So to protect your fertility, it’s crucial to go for regular STD testing, to ensure that any problems are caught early.

Problems with ovulation

Another cause of fertility problems is a lack of ovulation. This happens when the ovaries fail to release a viable egg, meaning that conception is impossible. Another issue that can impact the success of ovulation is Endometriosis, as this condition causes excess tissue to grow, blocking the path of the egg. Although these conditions can make getting pregnant more difficult, they don’t make it impossible, as there are treatment options, as well as IVF to consider. To help keep your ovaries and womb healthy, doctors recommend managing your body weight and leading a healthy and active lifestyle.

Low sperm count

A common problem impacting male fertility is a low sperm count. If a man has a low sperm count, this means that he doesn’t have enough high-quality sperm available to fertilize the egg, meaning that conception can be a struggle. Although a low sperm count can be down to genetics, factors like taking baths that are too hot and playing contact sports can impact the body’s ability to produce enough good quality sperm. In these cases, swapping to having cooler baths and showers and being more careful when playing sport can fix the issue.

Fertility problems may not be an issue right now, but if in the future, you are hoping to start a family, it’s important to understand what could prevent you from doing so, such as failing to treat an STD, for instance.
