(ThySistas.com) For most of us, stress doesn’t feel great. We’d all much rather be relaxing on a beach somewhere, enjoying the weather. But stress can be a real problem and can take its toll on our health and wellbeing. In this post, we’re going to look at the things that we all hate about stress.

It Makes It Hard To Control Your Emotions

Being stressed out all the time doesn’t just exact a toll on your physical well-being. It can make it hard to control your emotions as well. According to studies by New York University, low levels of stress make emotions less manageable. Under periods of stress, you’ll often find yourself reacting to situations in ways you would2016-stressblackwomann’t normally. The University found that stress inhibits our usual coping mechanisms. And as a result, we’re far more likely to experience fear and anxiety.

It Can Lead To Mandibular Disorder

Often when people are stressed, they start grinding their teeth. This condition is known as bruxism. And it can lead to damaged teeth and mandibular disorder. Grinding teeth during sleep can loosen the muscles around the jaw, causing it to make a noise while chewing. And it’s all thanks to the effects of stress.

Fortunately, there are things that you can do to alleviate the problem. Sites like bruxismremedy.com offer advice for people who suffer from the condition.

It Weakens Your Immune System

Stress makes it more likely that you’ll get a cold and keep it. Stress dampens down the immune system, allowing bugs to get a bigger foothold in your body.

It Can Harm Your Heart

One of the most serious consequences of stress is the effect that it can have on the heart. When you get stressed, your body releases stress hormones. These hormones then cause your heart to beat harder and faster. And they also restrict the flow of blood in your blood vessels. This, in turn, increases your blood pressure, which is a risk factor for heart disease.

Stress has a significant bearing on who does and does not have a heart attack, according to the American Institute of Stress. Heart attacks increase dramatically after traumatic events, like hurricanes and earthquakes. Find more on this at http://www.stress.org/.

It Makes You Look Older

Often you can tell, just by looking at somebody’s face, the stress and strain in their lives. And there appears to be a biological basis for this observation. Scientists from the University of California found that stress shortens telomeres. Telomeres are tiny structures on the tips of chromosomes that protect them when they divide. If they shorten too much, then the DNA in the chromosomes get damaged. This, in turn, leads to all the consequences of aging, like wrinkled skin and lack of energy.

It Makes You Fat

When we feel stressed, we’re more likely to reach for unhealthy food. Why? Well, the answer seems to be that it just makes us feel better – temporarily at least.

The best solution to this problem is to find alternative ways to remedy stress. You could try yoga. Or equally, just go for a bike ride.
