(ThySistas.com) I am not trying to disrespect anyone’s sincerity, intentions or motives, but there are some things that I have to discuss. I’ve been seeing the hashtags #BlackLivesMatter and #BlackBoysMatter, and both have sparked movements.
However, I don’t want us to only feel the need to mobilize when someone else commits an injustice against us. If Black Lives Matter…then they have to matter among us ALL DAY/EVERYDAY.
Black Boys need to matter when we attempt to keep boys away from their father.
Black Boys need to matter when they are miseducated.
Black Boys need to matter when there is an attempt to coddle them in our homes.
Black Boys need to matter when we try to force our warped idea of manhood on them.
Black Lives need to matter when we perform our own lynching by sending our men to court.
Black Lives need to matter when we walk past Black Men every day and we don’t open our mouths to speak or at the very least give them an encouraging smile.
Black Lives need to matter when we put ourselves in compromising situations and play the victim to run from our responsibility.
Black Lives need to matter when we lie on our men and say that they raped us.
Black Lives need to matter, when we willingly put our on men blast publicly.
Black Lives need to matter, by being responsible with our wombs.
Black Boys need to matter when they are told they will be nothing just like their father.
Black Boys need to matter when their sexual assaults/encounters by older women are seen as a passage towards manhood instead of the violation that is truly is.
Black Boys need to matter when we have young Black Men in our house and ALL we talk about is how worthless Black Men Are.
Black Life has to matter when we are using our children as pawns.
Black Life has to matter when we use our wombs as entrapment.
Black Lives need to matter when we are standing outside the abortion clinic. The following statistics are VERY telling regarding how much Black Lives matter to us.
-“In 2012, there were more black babies killed by abortion (31,328) in New York City than were born there (24,758), and the black children killed comprised 42.4% of the total number of abortions in the Big Apple, according to a report by the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.”
-“In total, there were 73,815 abortions, which means the 31,328 black babies aborted comprised 42.4% of the total abortions.”
-“According to the Alan Guttmacher Institute, black women are more than 5 times as likely as white women to have an abortion.
-“On average, 1,876 black babies are aborted every day in the United States.”
“This incidence of abortion has resulted in a tremendous loss of life. It has been estimated that since 1973 Black women have had about 16 million abortions.
Michael Novak had calculated “Since the number of current living Blacks (in the U.S.) is 36 million, the missing 16 million represents an enormous loss, for without abortion, America’s Black community would now number 52 million persons. It would be 36 percent larger than it is. Abortion has swept through the Black community like a scythe, cutting down every fourth member.”
Whenever I speak on abortion, I am not referring to cases of rape, incest or any other extenuating circumstances. I am specifically speaking of those that use abortion as a form of birth control, that don’t want to deal with the consequences of having sex or don’t want the responsibility of being a parent so they murder their child.
So the next time you’re contemplating an abortion, remember that #BlackLivesMatter hashtag that we are passing around. Black Lives have to matter ALL the time; not at our convenience.
We can’t be hypocritical and talk about the Black Men that are being body bagged, then head to the clinic and body bag our babies.
If Black Lives and Black Boys are important to us, ESPECIALLY BLACK women, then I expect to see a decline in abortions. I expect to see a decline in child support orders, I expect to see a decline in the Black Men Aint Shyt Meme’s, I expect to see a decline in the negative dialog against Black Men, I expect to see stronger concern regarding the state of our young Black Boys (starting in our houses), I expect to see a decline among one night stands, I expect to see a decline among Bitter Baby Mamas.
We can’t only hold those that commit offenses against us accountable, we must hold ourselves accountable as well.
So I’m looking forward to seeing how much Black Lives and Black Boys REALLY matter to Black Women.
