(ThySistas.com) I used to be that woman who couldn’t look people in the eyes when I talked to them because my self-esteem was so low and I’m naturally a shy person. As I’ve aged, I’ve become more humble and even more shy in a crowded room. I fought hard to maintain a peaceful life and have mastered building my confidence back up after a failed marriage years ago. Through it all, I have used these five methods to help me rebuild my confidence in myself and I wanted to share them with you.

Take better care of yourself. It may be simply grooming yourself better or actually making healthier lifestyle changes that will drastically help you feel better. I used to drink heavily and smoke cigarettes to deal with my problems in life. But once I kicked those bad habits and took control over what I fed my body daily, I noticed that my confidence in myself, grew more and more.

Get to know the real you. Outside of a relationship with a man, I really didn’t know who Felicia was. I spent many days and nights just getting to know me, without any distractions from a partner or anyone else. I learned the things that I liked as well as what I don’t like. I established boundaries for myself. I obtained for myself, my own morals and values and that severely boosted my confidence.

Look in a mirror daily, and affirm positive statements about yourself. Speaking things into existence is very powerful because the law of attraction confirms that you become what you think. So in order to build your confidence, you first have to think it is obtainable and then speak it into the universe. I keep positive words or affirmations around me daily, no matter where am I. We all have some bad days in our lives but those positive statements are fresh reminders that we are valued and loved.

Create positive spaces around you. Declutter your physical environment. Simply cleaning the area that you dwell or work in can build your confidence. My house isn’t always the cleanest but I do notice that I feel a lot better about myself in a clean work or home environment.

Get rid of toxic people and things in your life. If you are surrounded by people who are harmful to your sanity and health, get rid of it/them! I was constantly around toxic people and it bought my confidence down so low. I could never do anything right in their eyes, I was constantly trying to people please and it took a toll on my confidence and health eventually. I’ve had panic attacks or again, I reverted to alcohol or nicotine to deal with the stress of it all. Get around people who love you and not constantly drain the life out of you.

I am constantly building my confidence daily and sometimes moment by moment. It is so easy to compare yourself to others in this digital era we live in but please don’t. You are great just the way that you are. If you need to change certain habits you have because it’s harmful to you or the people you love, by all means, do what is needed to help you boost your confidence but not at the expense of destroying your body or life in general. I’m skinny-thick and there will always be a woman in a room that’s prettier than me, but that doesn’t dim my shine or who I am as person.

Repeat after me: I am loved. I am beautiful. I am smart. I am an amazing person on the inside and outside. I am valued. I am a woman who can do anything that I set my mind to.

Say those words of affirmation to yourself daily and until you know them without a doubt in your mind. Don’t allow someone else to dictate to you, your worth. Build your confidence at your own pace and soar into the great woman, who you were called to be.

Do you need a boost of confidence? Or, provide some methods that continuously helps you build your confidence daily to help another woman build her confidence. Post your thoughts in the comments.
