(ThySistas.com) Black women are vital to the strength and growth of America. We know this without a doubt, and the crazy part is everyone else knows it too…even if they choose not to acknowledge this truth. Women are a vital part of every culture, and how it is perpetuated and functions. So many Black women are in a rough space due to the outcome of the resent elections. Many were hoping that the first four years of Trump would be enough to move people to vote in their best interest truly. They hoped everyone has seen enough to realize, regardless of who the Democratic nominee is, Trump should never be an option. They were praying that America would not make the same mistake twice…don’t betray the nation again. They just knew Trumps legal issues were enough to make America see reason…convicted felon should be enough to discredit any candidate. This was the hope.
Black women went to work, as always, campaigning for a different America…maybe the start to a new America. They figured that since other groups were also at risk the women of this nation would finally unite. For once the “progressive liberal” white women that are feminists would finally stand with them. Black women were met with a deep seated disappoint, anger, and disconnection that reached the core of their being. Not only did Trump win, but they were literally betrayed by the people they stood with. In this moment Black women were reminded… “This Is America”. As a result of the elections and everything the outcome signifies, Black women have openly taken the stance that they will tell America no over the next four years.
It is clear the nation has no idea what it will mean for Black people…Black women to check out. We decided to no longer use our spirit, voice, and agency to fight for the soul of this nation via it’s citizens. When other groups are marginalized, they can call on us, or we just show up, when we see suffering to help them organize and fight for their cause. Black women understand the outcome of oppression in a deep and personal way. It’s the loss of community, the threat of violence against everything and everyone you love that makes living an enormous battle. Black women are aware of this as it is life for us. We don’t want to see others live under the oppression we live through and were born into. All we ask is that we receive the reciprocity we’ve earned by standing with marginalized communities.
On November 5, 2024, marginalized groups in America sent the Black community a very loud message. They let us know our struggle, oppression, and life does not matter. They let us know they would rather align themselves with a convicted felon…a criminal than Black people. Because of this deep betrayal the 92% of Black women that stood for our community and others decisively decided to tell America NO. The echo and meaning of that no was immediately felt. Trump isn’t in office yet and those that voted for him are learning about tariffs, understanding their loved ones really will be threatened with deportation, those that are naturalized citizens might get threatened too, the accommodations of students with disabilities could be threatened, and so much more. Now people want a re-do…no you don’t get to re-take the test and Black women…Black people warned you.
Black women, we must be sure we understand fully want saying no means. It means taking off the invisible mantle of “Mother of a Nation”. This step back is more than simply not protesting with other communities…it means literally turning all of our efforts inward towards our own community. It might mean walking away from feminism. We may need to evaluate ourselves deeply, our men, and work on the areas that are on us to foster healing with our men and children. When we go to work and the POC and White women come to us seeking that work counselor…. we must decline. We can’t fight with the education system for all children; we must clearly center our children. Saying no is the answer, but it’s not as easy as it seems. Right now, we are bleeding out, the wounds are fresh, so it doesn’t seem hard to back up and sip tea. However, as the bleeding stops our resolve will be tested.
Black women have always had a way of juggling everything. We manage our community and survival along with showing up for others. We ought not do this anymore. We must say no fully. The consequences of betraying the children of the architects of our moment must be felt. White women and POCs have played in our face blatantly and yet again. Sistahs this no must stand no matter how it pulls on our heartstrings, and eventually it will. When that moment comes just look in the faces of those you love, look at black men and children…look at yourself in the mirror and tell America NO. It’s time she learns her lesson.
