These family conflicts can easily get out of hand and end up lasting years if you’re not careful. There are so many families that don’t speak to one another and half the time, they can’t even remember what the conflict was about in the first place. If you’re worried about that happening to your family, you need to understand what the common causes of family conflict are and how you can tackle them before it’s too late.
Borrowing Money
Families lending money to each other is never a good idea and it doesn’t usually end well. It’s fine if you pay it back on time as agreed but that rarely happens. When people owe money to family it’s easy for them to think that it doesn’t really matter if they don’t pay them
Addiction
Having a family member with addiction problems is incredibly tough. It can often feel like you’re constantly going back and forth with them and it’s easy to get frustrated and blame them. Some families will often blame their family members for their problems and decide that they simply don’t want to deal with them any more. That’s not going to help them at all and they’re likely to spiral further. Instead, you should be getting them help like alcohol addiction treatment from a professional so they can start to get better instead. It’s a common misconception that this tough love approach of cutting them out is the best way to help them. While it’s going to be difficult, you need to recognize that it will be a long road but you will get there eventually, you just need to make sure that it doesn’t cause a family rift in the meantime.
Sibling Rivalry
Sibling rivalries are a big problem when you’re young because you’re both competing for your parents attention. When you’re older, that rivalry isn’t quite as fierce but it is still going to be there for the rest of your life. It won’t cause rifts on its own but it does mean that small problems can often been blown out of proportion and end up being huge arguments when they don’t need to be. It’s important to recognize that you and your siblings wind each other up and just be aware of that during any disagreements.
If you don’t deal with these family disputes right away, they could end up causing massive rifts that last for years to come.
