Getting “Old”? Getting Over It.

(ThySistas.comWe all fear it in one way or another, and it doesn’t matter how “old” or “young” we are, the inevitabilities that comes with aging can cause us enough stress. And whether you’re looking after someone you love and as a result, it’s making you think about your mortality on a regular basis, or you’re hitting an age milestone, there are a few things to solve your problems on the inside and out.

Being Perceived As Old

Now, there’s not a lot you can do to change someone’s mind about being thought of as old. You can be 21 and still be old to a child, and that’s just something that you need to realize, and it can take time. But the important thing is to not try and show how “young” you are, whether you’re doing handstands as an 80-year old, or you’re dressing like an 18-year old when you’re 35, it’s all about accepting who you are.

Your Mobility

As we get older, things start to click a bit more, and mobility can become much more difficult but don’t ignore these issues. Book an appointment with your doctor to check that they aren’t symptoms of something serious. There are always things we can do to help get around in the short-term. There are plenty of mobility aids for hire in your local pharmacy. If you need help with your mobility, you shouldn’t be ashamed of asking for it.

Cognitive Decline

A massive concern for a lot of us is if we start to forget things that could be the onset of a bigger problem, like Alzheimer’s, but as long as you take preventative measures to look after your mind and it will look after you. There have been people who in their old age are as weak as kittens but have the brain of an elephant. There have been studies into brain training, and it has shown to be a positive influence on the prevention of memory decline. But you don’t have to go and buy an expensive brain-training program; find ways to keep your mind sharp. Do a Sudoku puzzle every day, or write in a journal. And don’t underestimate your diet!

Your Diet

It’s probably the deciding factor in how you age. A poor diet will show in your body and mind. We are what we eat after all! So, if you have any sorts of concerns in your life about aging, which really is the best place to start. A lot is said about eating a low-fat diet, but the good fats, like those found in fish, olive oil, and nuts, are some of the key ingredients to looking after our eyes, heart, and even, our figure. Eating fat doesn’t mean you’ll get fat, and there are a lot of people who are exponents of eating a high-fat diet, and have actually lost hundreds of pounds! They’ve also never felt better. Ultimately, you need to listen to your body, and this will help you age with grace.
